Purpose

Possessing original artwork is more than just decoration .... it inspires us to look at the world in a different way. One of the most enduring qualities of art is its power to transport the viewer to another time and place. Looking at a picture can take you to a pristine wilderness, a fantastical dreamscape or into the outer reaches of the cosmos. Like portals into other people’s world, lives and minds, art affords us a unique opportunity to step outside of our familiar surroundings and into new worlds.

About The Artist

Life happens. Aspirations are put on hold ... with the likelihood of reviving those dreams fading fast in the rear view mirror.

That's what Artist Kathy Conrad thought as art took a backseat to marriage, children and a full-time job.

A quarter century passed before a challenge from an unlikely source jump-started Conrad's creative battery. That challenge was from her adult son ... to draw a 'nude' ... something she'd never done before.

One cheap box of soft (chalk) pastels, a roll of butcher paper and a lot of self-doubt later found Conrad and her son staring at a tastefully rendered drawing of a nude woman.

It wasn't long before Conrad honed her pastel skills producing a collection of sensual and ethereal figurative artwork.

New Genres ... New Medias

Today Conrad produces award-winning stylized landscapes, waterscapes, still life and figurative artwork in soft (chalk) pastels, pencil and acrylic.

Pastels and acrylics are often applied with her fingers -- with minimal brushwork.

Artboard, canvas, watercolor and bristol paper and variety of other exciting surfaces such as BitterRoot Veneer flagstone rock and vintage wooden jewelry boxes are all being used to create her art.

This painting is a tribute to those precious wee flowers who never bloomed ... passing in childhood.

Maude Delania was born on September 22, 1910.

Little Maude drown in a rain barrel August 16, 1913 ... she was three years old.

Maude was artist Kathy Conrad's aunt.
